Testimonials

Prashanta Yoga is so fortunate to have kind and loving students that are eager to share their yoga experiences with you.  It is impossible to live this lifetime without facing physical and mental challenges.  Yoga can help us all face these challenges with an open heart and a sense of balance, grace and dignity.

Janine - Rotator Cuff Injury

Surgery and a rotator cuff injury had made my shoulders almost immoveable.  After working with Christine, it is nothing short of miraculous to be able to lift my arms over my head without pain.  I never thought I would have the range of motion in my shoulders and arms that I have today.  Thank you Christine!

Jane Lindsay

I do renovations for a living.  Often my clients will say comments like "I guess you don't have to go to the gym."  But all the work I do throws my body out of whack.  I hold tools in my right hand, kneel on my left knee, lift heavy objects....Yoga strengthens my core to help protect my back and just puts my body back into balance.  I used to do one of those gym classes combining Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi but the fast pace and about 50 people in the room was not very relaxing.  I was always trying to keep up and wondering if I was doing it right.  Christine's small classes mean I get the hands on personal attention reminding me to relax my shoulders away from my ears, not just a shout through the microphone.  So after a few sun salutations, warrior poses and the beloved savasana...I leave class feeling tension free in both mind and body.

Gwen Millen

A friend recommended classes at Prashanta Yoga.  She said that she lost more inches from her waist in a short time with yoga than she had in years working out at the gym.  That was a great incentive to go.  I am noticing the improvement in both my core and overall body strength but the benefits I love the most are the stress release and that I have much better balance.  There are lots of days that I feel too tired and stressed to go but when I drag myself to the yoga studio anyway, I never regret it.  I always feel better and relaxed at the end of the session.

Emily - Yoga for Scoliosis and Migraines

I first attended Christine's yoga classes about two years ago.  I suffer from severe migraine headaches and back problems.  I have scoliosis with two titanium rods running along the full length of either side of my spine.  In addition I have a broken rod on my left lumbar spine.  I was looking for something that could help me maintain the little flexibility I had and for a coping mechanism for the pain I was experiencing, both head and back.  I found this in the gentle flow (flow 1) class.  I have managed to stick with it for two years and I am still going at it.  I have to say however that I would probably not have stuck with it had Christine been a different person.  I found that her classes were small and the other students who attended all had some sort of "ailment".  This helped me tremendously because I was not there to show off how long I could hold a position or how far I could stretch but I was there to heal.

With Christine's help and compassion I managed to gain confidence and build strength.  Christine is great at modifying positions so that they work for my body.  In fact she seems to be the most pleased when all of her students have taken a slightly different variation of a given pose to accommodate their own situation.  The encouragement and support is what I truly appreciate.  But even more, I enjoy her "talks" always offering words of wisdom, but always mixed in with great humour.  So you often find us pondering some insight Christine has shed on us or laughing.  I also find that the type of student Christine attracts is often someone who is just as caring and compassionate as she is.  I feel that I am in a caring, warm and comfortable environment.

Getting back to my migraine and back issues, of course these are not things that will go away, but I definitely have gained some coping skills.  Deep breathing has helped tremendously with my migraines, the sun salutation has helped my very rigid hips.  And, while it is not easy for me, my abs have gotten somewhat stronger as well!  So I think I will stick with yoga and look forward to Christine's new studio.

ps.  By the way, I have taken my two children 10 and 11 1/2 to a couple of Christine's classes and they just love it, even my son!  My daughter said that is changed her life!  Of course, Charlie the yoga dog is a great attraction for the kids!

Christine Etherington

I have been one of Christine's lucky students for 3 years.  I have participated in many yoga classes throughout North America and Christine's teaching style is by far my favourite.  Christine's way of transitioning from pose to pose, safe, slow guided methods and experimentation is like no other.  She remembers each students preferences and injuries, notices subtle improvements and she is constantly teaching her students new poses, about their body and about the yogic philosophy.  I love going to her classes so much that I introduced many of my newbie yoga friends to her classes over the years.  Give yourself a gift and experience her classes to know what I mean!

Paula Schwindt - Yoga Couple

My husband and I love our classes with Christine!  My husband is 64 and has a stressful, busy job.  In a million years I never thought he would try yoga.  He loves it!  He feels so much physically better and relaxed after classes.  The classes are small and very personalized to every clients individual needs.  We also enjoy doing it together on Sunday mornings.  This is not like yoga at a gym...this is personalized teaching from a highly trained teacher (ps. Christine is a funny, patient, engaging teacher who puts us totally at ease with each new step).  My husband is much less stressed since starting yoga with Christine.

I am a 52 year old dog walker...and a load of labs on the end of a leash or hoisting them into the car takes some strength.  I find that when I skip yoga, I notice almost immediately the loss of strength in my arms.  Yoga with Christine has been a nice joint activity for us both and we get a good workout and come away feeling happy and relaxed.

Plus...I have been a very active person, tennis, gym, dog walking and my family physician says this is THE BEST THING we could do!

Nadine Carson - Trauma Recovery

I was first introduced to Prashanta Yoga by accident - literally.  I was struck by a vehicle and sustained multi-traumatic injuries requiring months of hospital stays and years of rehabilitation.  After two years of intensive rehab, my physical injuries were recovering fairly well, however, I did not possess an overall sense of well being.  I experienced chronic fatigue, with feelings of numbness, disassociation and disconnection.

The energy, intention and welcoming spirit that emanated from Christine Dennis and of course her 10 year old poodle, Charlie Brown, have impacted me so positively.  Chris introduced me to a trauma-sensitive restorative yoga practice using a combination of poses and props.  With Chris' help and a personalized well-sequenced practice, I discovered my prescription for health and healing.  Christine manages to skillfully blend her heartfelt knowledge and practice experience into a safe comprehensive program which promises and delivers positive benefits.  I simply immersed myself in the direct experience of this joyous and life-affirming practice and continue to reap the benefits.

Yoga has been a powerful tool in my recovery.  Healing from trauma is possible and accessing that healing through yoga is "healing in motion".
